Stichting railAlert

Stichting railAlert promotes occupational safety for everyone working on the Dutch railways and manages the rail infrastructure in the Netherlands. RailAlert works closely with various stakeholders, including ProRail, to ensure safety on and around the railways. YIM realised a digital solution, commissioned by ProRail and railAlert, to replace the error- and fraud-prone paper safety passport. Contractors, subcontractors and performers have to be demonstrably legal and qualified at work around the track. 

The various proofs and systems are integrated into one comprehensive system. Based on the Agile Scrum methodology, several teams (interaction designers, designers, developers, architect, scrum master) worked on this concept. This resulted in the Digital Security Passport (DVP). Consisting of three components: a portal, a physical passport and a ScanApp. 

One clear overview thanks to DVP

Thanks to the portal, employers and supervisors have a clear overview of notifications, employees, violations and reports. This overview is created by creating links with the systems of various companies and certification bodies. 

Indispensable tool

This overview is created by creating links with the systems of various companies and certification bodies. The combination of the data read in leads to a person receiving or not receiving the Digital Safety Passport.

When the desired combination is met, a pass is automatically printed and sent to the pass holder. This is made possible by linking the portal to the Dataclient login system and Nsecure's pass production system. The portal also offers possibilities to keep track of pass validity and gain insight into the pass production process or the number of people present at the location. This makes the portal an indispensable tool for organisations that need to guarantee security at locations.

On-site data monitoring via innovative Scan App

In addition to the portal, YIM developed an innovative Scan App. RailAlert carries out inspections when working on and around the railways. By scanning the QR code on the performers' pass, the supervisor sees all the data of the person in question in the Scan App.

• Data and access can be checked via the Scan App.
• Attendance and absence records are kept and violations are recorded.
• Errors and fraud are reduced, increasing security at a site.
• The ScanApp is available for iOS, Android, Windows Phone and also works offline.

Results achieved thanks to the Digital Security Passport

Thanks to the introduction of the Digital Safety Passport, safety around the railways has been increased. A key objective at railAlert. The other objectives that railAlert linked to the project were even exceeded thanks to good cooperation!

DVP received the Dutch Interactive Award 2015 in the B2B & Professional Services category.
