Shell and YIM go for incident-free environment
After Shell Pernis, Shell Moerdijk has now also transformed its own Safety Centre into an Experience Centre. The existing centre was given a metamorphosis with innovative learning methods and more realistic imitations of reality.YIM is a major contributor when it comes to ‘Goal Zero’: an incident-free environment where controlled access based on proper qualification is an essential factor.
Safety is top priority
Safety is a very important precondition at Shell Moerdijk: you either work here safely or you don't. The new safety centre came about thanks to cooperation with various contractors working on the Shell Moerdijk site on a daily basis. As a result, the mandatory safety training for everyone performing work on the Shell Moerdijk site is now the cream of the crop in terms of safety. In 2019, this already happened at Shell Pernis.
Specific training courses have been developed for the Shell sites, tailored to the different roles and functions of Shell employees and contractors. E-learnings are via tablet, phone or computer. This way, learning is not only easier but also more fun for students.
An incident-free environment thanks to identity management
YIM makes an important contribution to this with its identity management platform. It incorporates over 27 years of safety and IT knowledge and expertise. The platform not only offers the perfect balance between access and security, but also ensures that all activities comply with laws and regulations.
Managing risks
When contractors perform work or suppliers enter a site or company location(s), specific information is requested, depending on the nationality and type of work. Think of documents and certificates relating to legal employment or safety (VCA). Within a digital file, all documents and certificates relating to the performance of work are stored. In addition, expiry dates are monitored and notifications are sent automatically to keep files up-to-date and valid for the next work visit.
In this way, organisations overcome risks relating to security, illegality, labour law or taxation.
The e-learning module helps raise the knowledge level of employees and contractors, create a safety culture and thus create an incident-free working environment.
Experience the Shell Experience Center in 5 steps
The basic idea behind the Shell Experience Center is simple: thanks to the real-life situations and playful way of learning, theoretical and practical training sticks much better than the ‘dry’ and labour-intensive safety training provided before. Employees and contractors go through the following steps during safety training:
- Participants register in advance.
- Based on function and activities, they follow a specific e-learning via tablet, phone or computer.
- Depending on function and activities, participants (in groups or not) use a personal QR code to follow a route with a number of safety scenarios through the Shell Experience Centre.
- After the online e-learning and going through the Experience Centre, the participant takes the exam via a tablet at the location.
- Passed the exam and experienced the scenarios? Then the participant has demonstrably passed. The result is linked to a personal file and access pass, which allows the participant to access certain work locations.
The result? Controlled access of persons based on the correct qualifications. When the validity of the training expires, participants automatically receive a notification to take the exam (again).
The new Experience Centre was officially opened on Friday 18 February 2022 by Robin Mooldijk, Executive Vice President Chemicals & Products at Shell.
