NAM and YIM create more safety through unique e-learning
The way to get safety rules better between the ears? That is, of course, to experience them yourself in an interactive and accessible way.The safety training and experience centre in Groningen builds on Shell Pernis' successful Safety Centre, which we helped develop.
World's first safety centre
The Safety Centre at Shell Pernis was the world's first safety centre when it opened in 2014 - setting a global trend within the industry. In 2019, the centre was revamped: an experience centre was added and the e-learning platform was completely revamped. More than 60,000 Shell employees and contractors have now completed mandatory safety training there. The centre has measurably increased safety awareness and taken overall safety to the next level.
By realising the software for workflow and identity management as well as e-learning, YIM has made a significant contribution to the Shell Safety Centre. Thanks to our in-depth knowledge of access and safety, we have ensured that these two worlds complement rather than hinder each other. Our secret? A seamless integration between logging in, digital personal files, e-learning and the underlying physical access control system.
The Shell Pernis Safety Centre formed the basis for the idea behind the NAM (Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij) Safety Centre, which opened on 1 October 2020, for which YIM applied all the sign-in, registration and e-learning software.
No dry material but real-life situations
Shell and NAM both operate in the petrochemical industry and face the same safety risks. Moreover, Shell owns half of NAM. The NAM Safety Centre in the middle of the Groningen gas extraction area is therefore identical to Shell Pernis' safety training and experience centre, but completely in the NAM house style. After all, why change a winning formula?
The basic idea behind the NAM Safety Centre with experience centre is simple: thanks to the real-life situations and playful way of learning, the theoretical and practical training courses make a much better impression than the dry and labour-intensive safety training courses provided before. The training courses are also tailored to people's jobs: for example, an excavator learns different safety aspects than an electrician.
Accreditation through 6 simple steps
Employees and contractors go through the following steps when taking safety training at the NAM Safety Centre:
- Contractors register in advance. Based on function and duties, employees and contractors follow a specific e-learning via tablet, phone or computer.
- After the online e-learning, they take an exam at NAM.
- Using a QR code, they take the route through the NAM Safety Centre.
- Depending on function and activities, participants go through a number of safety scenarios (in groups or not).
- Passed the exam and experienced the scenarios? Then a contractor or employee is demonstrably aware of all the risks and is given access to the work site in question.
- Meanwhile, NAM has comprehensive insights around the training courses thanks to various reports and a dashboard.
Smart software for more safety
We wove our 25 years of knowledge and expertise in access, safety, software platforms and IT development into the digital solutions for sign-in, registration and e-learning for NAM and Shell's Safety Centres. Combined with our integrated approach, this allowed us to add value to every step of the chain.
Through our workflow and identity management platforms Dataclient and YIM, we created the right balance between access provision, security and hospitality for NAM and Shell. YIM's e-learning module helps the companies raise the level of knowledge, create a safety culture and thus create an incident-free working environment. With the e-learning platform, NAM and Shell are able to apply new technologies, developments and interfaces. This allows us to provide continuity and take additional steps in safety again and again.
From e-learning to integral security management
Safety experience training courses have the most added value in high-risk companies. Because our e-learning platform is modular, it is interesting for a wide range of organisations. From SMEs to multinationals and from finance to facility. For instance, we can deploy one basic training course for everyone, a separate training course for visitors or remote instruction. Customised solutions are also possible, such as continuous e-learning, gamification and a complete (online) security training centre.
We often implement digital workflow and identity management solutions at the same time. This enables them to limit risks and improve their access and security processes as well as compliancy. As a result, we achieve a higher level of security together.
